10 - Strange Angels
A few weeks after my calling, I had this “strange” experience that I still think about. I mean, it could have been all in my head, but I’d like to believe it was a real divine moment. I’d call it a “visitation by angels.” They didn’t say anything; they just showed up one night while I was tossing and turning in bed, trying to fall asleep. I was wide awake during this encounter.
It all started with some colorful blurs, kind of like the weird patterns you see when you close your eyes. Then those colors slowly took shape as transparent human figures. There were about four or five of them, and they didn’t have any real facial features—just these flat rectangular masks with tiny holes all over them. They didn’t look like your typical angels at all. Strangely enough, I felt safe instead of scared. I just lay there, curious about what would happen next.
One of them came closer, and I had this vague feeling that it was my mom, who passed away the year before, but I wasn’t sure. The figure leaned over me and seemed to “look” at my face for a few seconds, then slowly walked away. I remember reaching out and softly saying, “Don’t go.” It vanished with the others who were hanging around my bed.
One figure stuck around while the rest faded away. It was a green figure standing by the door, almost like it was guarding it. It had some kind of armor on and, like the others, wore a mask full of holes. It kind of reminded me of The Beetle from Marvel comics. It lingered for a few more minutes and then left.
Honestly, I’m not sure what to make of all this. Were they really angels? I don’t know, but I’d like to think so. Were they ghosts? I doubt it; I think I would’ve been freaked out if that were the case.
There are plenty of angel visitations in the Bible, and one verse that resonates with me is Luke 2:13-14: “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!’”
When I had my calling, I clearly heard a bunch of voices saying, “Glory be to God.” I believe it was the Heavenly Host. Even though I didn’t hear anything while lying in bed during my angel visit, maybe this was a follow-up visit. Or maybe they were not angels at all, but rather the heavenly souls of the long-departed stopping by for an Earthly visit. That kind of makes sense, too, when I think about it, especially if one of them were my mother. I guess that would technically make them ghosts, right? I really don’t know, but what I do know is that it’s an experience I’ll never forget.
